August Mori Poll, public priorities, and sustainability

I was reading the IPsos Mori’s August Political Monitor this evening and alongside the apparent hopelessness of the current position for the Labour administration (facing a 24% Conservative lead), what concerned me was information about:

  • The issues that people say will be very important in helping them decide which party to vote for at the next General Election.

The environment was 7th at 10%.

At first sight I was dismayed that despite; global food shortages, looming peak oil, and talk of how we adapt to, rather than prevent climate change, that environmental and sustainability issues remain so marginal.

The sustainability message is clearly failing to be connected up in the public consciousness.

However the environment, social justice, and self interest are starting to collide rapidly.
